HEADLINE TOUR HAPPENING NOW!

BAND TOURING WITH JOYCE MANOR NEXT SPRING

Washington, D.C. punk duo TEEN MORTGAGE are back with “DISAPPEAR,” a gloriously filthy burst of discordant punk energy — premiering now via Revolver.

Watch and listen here and here.

"'Disappear' was inspired by The Almanac Singers 'I Don't Want Your Millions Mister,'" Guile states. "The subject matter is as relevant now as it was back then. Soulless technology barons continue to bring about a second gilded age for the USA. History shows us this type of feudalism goes hand in hand with fascist control. We present a very easy solution: These fascists must disappear."

"Disappear" is featured on the band's debut album DEVIL ULTRASONIC DREAM, out now via Roadrunner Records. Get it here.

Teen Mortgage, who have shared stages with the likes of Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins. are in the middle of a headline tour. Get tickets here.

Teen Mortgage aren’t slowing down anytime soon — they’ll be tearing up stages next spring on tour with Joyce Manor, Militarie Gun, and Combat. Dates listed below.

ABOUT TEEN MORTGAGE

Teen Mortgage arrive with a full can of gasoline, ready to bring some light to the chaos. Originally from England, guitarist and frontman James Guile had been experimenting with the Teen Mortgage project under various names for years, shaping a sound fueled by sociopolitical commentary, mosh-pit energy, and the bite of classic ’80s punk.

After relocating to Maryland five years ago—where the D.C. fire burns brightest—Guile posted a “DRUMMER WANTED” ad on Craigslist, along with early Teen Mortgage demos, mostly as a joke. Fortunately, drummer and former nurse Edward Barakauskas got the joke. The universe clearly agreed that Teen Mortgage was overdue, and the rest quickly became musical history.

Over the next several years, the duo kept the project alive through chaos, carving out a name in the DMV scene while dodging the daily grind of existence. Between a global pandemic and Ed’s time as an ER frontline worker, they managed to release an EP and several singles before signing with Roadrunner Records in 2024.

In April 2025—fresh off tour with Weezer and The Smashing Pumpkins—Ed and James are set to release their debut full-length album, Devil Ultrasonic Dream, which carries forward their narrative of finding joy amid tech feudalism, American oligarchy, and the military-industrial complex.

The album’s title nods to the 1980s “Satanic Panic” in rock and roll, reflecting the nation’s slide toward censorship and a rising wave of Christian theocracy.

Keeping the creative process straightforward, Guile explains:

“I just wrote the demos over the period of the last year between touring. I wrote like 25 songs, we picked the best 11. We went to the same studio we've been going to for the bulk of our recording career; worked with Kenny Eaton at Mystery Ton Studios, and made the better version of what we did before. The guitars are recorded better, the drums are recorded better, vocals are recorded better. We went on tour with Weezer and the Smashing Pumpkins and I just got blown away with that sound of Billy Corgan's layering of guitars so there's just big ass guitars on this one and the lyrics are a lot better as well.”

When it comes to genre labels, Guile doesn’t seem too concerned:

“I think punk is so loosely defined, especially hardcore in the year 2025 is like so loosely defined. I've heard people call us surf hardcore; I'll take that. I can think maybe the Dead Kennedys is like a surf hardcore band, but I just call it punk or garage punk. I feel like if it's garage punk there's more of a template to do whatever you want with it; it doesn't put you as much in that hardcore box. I'll accept it if people think we're hardcore, soft core, whatever. Fuck it.”

Album Review: Lifetime Achievement Award by Wax

Wax’s Lifetime Achievement Award is a mature, introspective record — one that feels like the work of an artist who’s earned the right to ask big questions without having to pose big answers. It’s not flashy or overproduced; it’s deliberate, analog, and emotionally grounded.

Production & Sound
One of the most compelling things about this album: it was envisioned as a vinyl-only release, with all instrumentation handled in analog and the overall arrangement leaning classic. The sonic palette evokes vintage influences (think Pink Floyd, D’Angelo) while keeping a personal, lived-in hip-hop sensibility. Wax and producer Kush Mody co-arranged much of the instrumentation, which gives the record a cohesive, handcrafted feel.

Themes & Lyrics
The album title track sets the tone: Wax reflects on what it means to be celebrated, what it means to leave marks, and whether awards—even symbolic ones—can ever fully validate the life of an artist. Those existential threads carry through the record: love, loss, ambition, and the tension between self-worth and external validation. There’s also room for levity — songs like “It’s You” and “Coast” break up the seriousness with warmth and a lighter touch.

Particularly striking is the closing sequence: a trilogy of songs that trace a breakup, the heartbreak, and then incremental healing. That arc ends with “Don’t Give a Damn No More,” a celebratory, almost joyful acoustic romp that offers closure.

Highlights

  • Lifetime Achievement Award (the title track) — sets a somber, reflective tone that threads across the album.

  • The breakup trilogy is emotionally gripping; the transition from pain to recovery is handled with care.

  • “Don’t Give a Damn No More” is a risk that pays off — ending the album on a note of reaffirmation.

Verdict
Lifetime Achievement Award isn’t about saying “look at me now.” It’s about reflecting on what gets left behind, what endures, and how you carry your own legacy. For fans of rap that leans poetic more than aggressive, this is one of Wax’s strongest statements yet.

Portland Show Alert

Wax brings Lifetime Achievement Award to Portland later this November, and it’s shaping up to be a must-see for anyone following lyric-forward, emotionally rich hip-hop.

Venue: Jack London Revue
Date: Friday, November 21, 2025
Doors: 7 PM | Show: 8 PM
Tickets & Info: Jack London Revue (check their site for ticket links)

Expect the setlist to feature a backbone of tracks from Lifetime Achievement Award, but with detours into fan favorites, older cuts, and perhaps some reinterpretations in the live space. Wax’s performances often blend crowd interaction, storytelling, humor, and vulnerability.

The Jack London Revue’s intimate setting is ideal — the kind of place where a single line can land harder when heard live, the room’s energy matters, and silences catch weight.

Portland’s The Macks Launch into Their Own Chaotic Universe with New Single “Cypher Sore Eyes”

Blazing through a world of their own creation, Portland, Oregon’s The Macks unleash their latest single, “Cypher Sore Eyes,” a heavy, dissonant dive into the frustrations of modern existence. With a brooding atmosphere and sharp lyrical edge, the track wrestles with the unsettling reality of living in a world where nearly every move seems to back a cause you didn’t choose. When everyday life feels like a weapon waiting to be used, how do you move forward? Stream now.

Vocalist Sam Fulwiler shared that, “‘Cypher Sore Eyes’ offers a view from a cog in the war machine. The song explores shame and guilt when one is pitted against an enemy that they did not select themselves. It’s about fighting someone else’s battles, locally or globally, without understanding the motive of your own aggression.”

Guitarist Ben Windheim continued, “Cypher is downtrodden, relentless, and bleak. Musically, it’s dissonant and odd-timed. We did our best CAN impression with the percussion loops, which is leading us into some pretty heady jams on stage when we play this one live. We were listening to ‘Planet Caravan’ when dialing in the vocal effects. RIP Ozzy.”

Fresh off the announcement of their new album just last week, The Macks aren't slowing down. Bonanza is set to drop September 25 via DevilDuck Records / Fullaway, promising a raw and unfiltered dose of the band’s genre-defying rock. Calling it “a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have come from this stubbornly sincere group of desperate artists,” The Macks are clearly unraveling—but right where they need to be.

LISTEN TO “CYPHER SORE EYES” PRE-SAVE BONANZA

The news of the album was paired with the release of two new singles and a split video for “Dually of Man” and “The Modern Grape.” The former a rollicking laundry list of suburban malaise, and the latter an urgent need to be someone great. The inventive official video united both songs under one storyline of The Macks lured into the lair of a humanoid fat cat, voyeuristically amused to be in the presence of musicians.

Following the release of Bonanza, The Macks will be hitting the road with Japan’s Acid Mothers Temple for an extensive North American tour. All upcoming dates can be found here and below.

ABOUT THE MACKS:

Bonanza (bo-nan-za); noun; “a situation or event that creates a sudden increase in wealth or good fortune.”

The Macks may have stumbled upon their Bonanza, but there is no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow. It’s all about the grind, baby! Steam locomotives accelerate faster than this band, every action met with an equal and opposite reaction. For 10 years, The Macks have been collecting disciples one at a time, and now are delivering a record made for them. Focused, scattered, electric and tender, Bonanza is a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have been crafted by this dedicated and bull-headedly sincere troupe of desperate artists. First time listeners will be met with honest writing, bold production, and a world that invites them to join in on the good fortune - just don’t expect any money.

Founded in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, The Macks are brothers Josef (drums) and Ben Windheim (guitar), Sam Fulwiler (vocals), Jacob Michael Perris (keys) and Aidan Harrison (bass). Bonanza will be released this September via Devil Duck Records / Monotone's record label fullaway.

Chokecherry Return with Breakup Anthem “Goldmine” and Summer Tour Dates

SAN FRANCISCO’S DREAMY CHOKECHERRY RETURN WITH “GOLDMINE” — WATCH THE VIDEO

TOURING WITH WAVVES THIS SUMMER

San Francisco dream-pop duo chokecherry — featuring vocalist/guitarist Izzie Clark and vocalist/bassist E. Scarlett Levinson — are back with a shimmering new single, Goldmine.”

Watch the Jack Boston-directed video for “Goldmine” [here].

Originally considered for the band’s Messy Star EP (released last fall), the track was set aside — a move that ultimately allowed it to fully evolve. The song took on new life when chokecherry returned to the studio with producer Zach Tuch this January.

“Goldmine” is a breakup anthem — but with a twist.

“It’s resolute in the idea that things will never be the same again, playing with modern riffs and brooding harmonies against the backdrop of our youthful inspirations,” says Levinson. “It’s a reflection on a time that no longer exists, and the brutal challenges we face when letting go of something we once cherished.”

The track drips with dreamlike, lovesick energy — a breathy, whimsical anthem that feels straight out of a Wes Anderson film, complete with gentle cymbal crashes and a chorus that swells like waves at sunset. Each instrument moves with both grace and intent, evoking a time capsule of the best of the ’90s and ’00s. The song was mixed by Chris Coady (DIIV, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Future Islands, Yung Lean).

“I drew on a recent heartbreak while writing my lyrics for ‘Goldmine,’” Clark shares. “The emotions felt fresh and raw — getting into the studio immediately helped me process that chaos. The upbeat guitar riff is like a glimmer of hope, bookending the heartache. The bridge — ‘If it’s too heavy, we can dumb it down’ — captures that desperate bargain of wanting to return to what’s familiar, even if it hurts.”

Levinson adds, “My hope is that listeners feel the nostalgia and know they’re not alone in their losses — it’s a shared sorrow. I often feel heartbreak for the past that no longer lives in my present. ‘Goldmine’ lets me slip into that rose-colored remembrance. The lyric ‘Goldmine, tastes just like a fire’ reflects how the most beautiful things can still burn you, while the chorus confesses that longing we all feel for imperfect times gone by.”

The Video: Director Jack Boston explains, “Every creative choice had intention — even if it feels abstract. It’s a breakup song, and breakups carry a spectrum of emotion. I also loved the idea that a breakup can leave a location feeling emotionally radioactive — like Chernobyl — with lingering residue in the air.”

The Inspiration: Beyond personal heartbreak, the band’s new music is shaped by the current state of the world. “This isn’t just heartbreak over someone,” says Levinson. “It’s heartbreak over the world itself — the loss of innocence and childhood. We’re watching our past, present, and future being stripped away. Sonically, we’re channeling influences from Beach House, Frou Frou, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Dehd.”

Since their formation, chokecherry have been steadily turning heads. The San Francisco Gate praised their “blend of white-hot shoegaze,” calling it “the modern sound of the California sun vaporizing the San Francisco fog.” While Clark and Levinson didn’t work out romantically, their creative chemistry is undeniable — and stunning to experience.
