Portland’s The Macks Launch into Their Own Chaotic Universe with New Single “Cypher Sore Eyes”
Blazing through a world of their own creation, Portland, Oregon’s The Macks unleash their latest single, “Cypher Sore Eyes,” a heavy, dissonant dive into the frustrations of modern existence. With a brooding atmosphere and sharp lyrical edge, the track wrestles with the unsettling reality of living in a world where nearly every move seems to back a cause you didn’t choose. When everyday life feels like a weapon waiting to be used, how do you move forward? Stream now.
Vocalist Sam Fulwiler shared that, “‘Cypher Sore Eyes’ offers a view from a cog in the war machine. The song explores shame and guilt when one is pitted against an enemy that they did not select themselves. It’s about fighting someone else’s battles, locally or globally, without understanding the motive of your own aggression.”
Guitarist Ben Windheim continued, “Cypher is downtrodden, relentless, and bleak. Musically, it’s dissonant and odd-timed. We did our best CAN impression with the percussion loops, which is leading us into some pretty heady jams on stage when we play this one live. We were listening to ‘Planet Caravan’ when dialing in the vocal effects. RIP Ozzy.”
Fresh off the announcement of their new album just last week, The Macks aren't slowing down. Bonanza is set to drop September 25 via DevilDuck Records / Fullaway, promising a raw and unfiltered dose of the band’s genre-defying rock. Calling it “a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have come from this stubbornly sincere group of desperate artists,” The Macks are clearly unraveling—but right where they need to be.
LISTEN TO “CYPHER SORE EYES” PRE-SAVE BONANZA
The news of the album was paired with the release of two new singles and a split video for “Dually of Man” and “The Modern Grape.” The former a rollicking laundry list of suburban malaise, and the latter an urgent need to be someone great. The inventive official video united both songs under one storyline of The Macks lured into the lair of a humanoid fat cat, voyeuristically amused to be in the presence of musicians.
Following the release of Bonanza, The Macks will be hitting the road with Japan’s Acid Mothers Temple for an extensive North American tour. All upcoming dates can be found here and below.

ABOUT THE MACKS:
Bonanza (bo-nan-za); noun; “a situation or event that creates a sudden increase in wealth or good fortune.”
The Macks may have stumbled upon their Bonanza, but there is no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow. It’s all about the grind, baby! Steam locomotives accelerate faster than this band, every action met with an equal and opposite reaction. For 10 years, The Macks have been collecting disciples one at a time, and now are delivering a record made for them. Focused, scattered, electric and tender, Bonanza is a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have been crafted by this dedicated and bull-headedly sincere troupe of desperate artists. First time listeners will be met with honest writing, bold production, and a world that invites them to join in on the good fortune - just don’t expect any money.
Founded in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, The Macks are brothers Josef (drums) and Ben Windheim (guitar), Sam Fulwiler (vocals), Jacob Michael Perris (keys) and Aidan Harrison (bass). Bonanza will be released this September via Devil Duck Records / Monotone's record label fullaway.
